to promote, maintain and enhance the game of golf among senior women in Georgia,
to conduct an annual 36-hole stroke play tournament for the GSWGA Championship,
to conduct a Fall Team Tournament,
to give suitable recognition to the winners of these events.
Greetings from Linda Barrett, our 2018 President
Happy New Year Everyone!
On behalf of our Board of Directors, welcome to the GSWGA 2018 golfing season! Fifty Four years ago a group of friends and avid women golfers came together to form an elite golfing association for Georgia senior women. Our vision for GSWGA remains the same today as it did then, to share the growth of golf among senior women; to engage in the spirit of competition; and to reap the rewards of a game well played, while enjoying the fun and camaraderie of it all. A very special thanks to our new, and existing members for your continued support, and for helping us make 2017 a huge success. In an effort to serve you better, your feedback is critical to improving our performance, and in helping us set our performance goals. If you have any comments or concerns, please use the Contact Us page on our website: http://www.gswga.org. We’d love to hear from you!
With your help, our focus in 2018 will be to promote our recognition in the golfing community, to encourage participation in our association, and to update our operating procedures to better serve our membership. I am confident that with the collective efforts of the board and the membership, we will continue to grow GSWGA as the premiere organization we know it to be.
As members of GSWGA we are afforded the opportunity to play some of Georgia’s finest venues at very reasonable rates. The May 7-9 Championship Tournament will be played at Woodmont Country Club in Canton, and the Golf Club at Bradshaw Farms in Woodstock. The October 8-10Team Tournament will be played at Green Island Country Club, and Maple Ridge Golf Club in Columbus. These perfectly manicured and aesthetically beautiful golf courses set the perfect stage for both events, making your round fun, yet challenging, for all skill levels and ages. Please mark your calendars accordingly and help us fill these tournaments, making this another banner year for GSWGA.
Regardless of the season, our volunteer, not-for-profit board works diligently to maintain the quality of service our membership deserves. They are energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated to meeting our membership needs. As President, it is my honor to serve with each of these ladies. GSWGA welcomes new board members Rose Cannon, Elaine Kalifeh, and Jeanie Mahoney. Together they bring us a fresh perspective, and a wealth of golfing experience which will provide tremendous benefits to our board, and to our membership. As we begin the 2018 season, please consider volunteering to be a board member. It is a rewarding experience and a great way to meet our members. If you would like more information about volunteering, please feel free to contact me or any member of the board.
Last but not least, please join me in extending a special note of thanks to our 2017 retiring board members: Past President and Chairman of the Board, Edna Romano; Treasurer, Amanda Moore; and 2nd Vice President, Karen Mathes. Their years of dedicated service on the board serving on various committees, is immeasurable; the hours spent completing their duties, incomprehensible. We have been very fortunate to have such leaders serving our membership, volunteering their time to maintain and improve our association. When you see these people out and about be sure to express a “thank you” to them, as this association would not be as successful as it is now without them. Again, “THANK YOU” Edna, Amanda, and Karen.
I wish you all a happy and healthy 2018 golfing season, and look forward to seeing all of you soon!
