Greetings from 2020 President, Marva Simpson
Greetings on behalf of the GSWGA Board of Directors. I am pleased to welcome you to our 2020 golfing season. I am filled with excitement and anticipation again this year as we prepare for the golfing season. 2020 is year 56 for this phenomenal association, promoting golf among senior women throughout the state of Georgia. You, the members are responsible for the longevity of the association, through your support as a member; your support in introducing new members to the group; and your support through participation in the Spring and Fall Tournaments.
There are many changes occurring in the game of golf. In 2019 there were major changes in the Rules. The Board provided tools at the Spring and Fall Tournaments to assist you with playing under the new rules. In 2020 the Handicap System is converting to a new system, Worldwide Handicap System (WHS). The Board has already communicated information on the new system via Constant Contact. We will always make every effort to keep you informed.
The Spring Individual Tournament will be held on May 4-6 at Callaway Gardens, Pine Mountain, Georgia. The two courses feature scenic lake and mountain views. The Fall Team Tournament will be played in Peachtree City, Georgia at Flat Creek Country Club and Planterra Ridge Golf Club. Flat Creek Country Club was opened in 1988 and designed by John Lee. The second course, Planterra Ridge Golf Club, opened in 1994 and was designed by Rockey Roquemore and Jeff Burton. We hope that you will enjoy playing all of the courses selected for 2020.
At the end of 2020 there are several directors whose term on the Board will end. This will open up an opportunity for you to increase your level of service to the association by stepping up to serve on the Board. Please reach out to any of the current Directors, let them know that you ‘WANT TO SERVE”. You may also email your interest to email@example.com.
One of the goals for 2019 was to focus on improving the website. I am thrilled to announce that through the efforts of the current Website Coordinator, a new and user-friendly Website is up and running. A second goal was to make registration for membership and tournament entry a more efficient process. I am excited to announce that you may now complete the application for membership online. If you desire to continue to submit via U.S. Mail that option will remain open to you.
We promised in 2019 to provide tournaments that are efficient, fair and enjoyable. In our effort to achieve this goal we changed the format of the Fall Team Tournament to two days of Best Ball Play. From a historical perspective this was a drastic change and therefore we experienced a few expressions of displeasure. During the Fall General meeting of the membership, I as President, promised that the Board would review this matter. Be assured that this will be done, and our plans moving forward will be submitted to the membership via Constant Contact prior to the implementation of plans for the 2020 Fall tournament.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us hear from you. The Board is here to serve you and would appreciate hearing from you. You may contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Looking forward to an outstanding year for GSWGA and wishing each of you your best round of golf ever in 2020!
Marva B. Simpson
